2020 celebrates the 500th anniversary of the Field of Cloth of Gold, the single largest and most expensive summit-meeting-cum-sporting-event of the sixteenth century, staged just south of Calais between King Henry VIII and the French King, Francis I.
To celebrate this important anniversary, the Royal Armouries is commissioning a replica of a 500 year old helmet to be worn by a brave knight during our Tudor-themed joust tournament in May 2020. The helmet will then become part of our handling and live interpretation collection, allowing you to get ‘hands on’ with this unique piece of history.
We need to raise £1,750 towards the costs of materials and the skilled work of an expert armourer to create this unique piece. Any donation from you, large or small, will help us to bring this unique piece of history to life.
